Synthesia is the most established avatar platform in corporate training, and it is often the incumbent you are being compared against rather than the tool you are choosing between. It is worth being precise about where it is genuinely strong.
Synthesia details below were checked against Synthesia's public knowledge base on 21 August 2026.
What is the difference between Wondercraft and Synthesia?
Synthesia is built around avatar-led training video, with deep tooling for enterprise learning teams: presenter libraries, localisation, and LMS-oriented workflows. Wondercraft is a multi-format studio covering video, audio, images, and music, where avatars are one option rather than the core.
What does Wondercraft cost?
- Free: $0, 150 credits, up to 720p, limited model access. Output is non-commercial only.
- Creator: $25/month, or $21/month billed annually. 1,000 credits, full commercial rights, all premium models, API access.
- Pro: $45/month, with 2,000, 4,000, or 6,000 credit tiers. Up to 3 seats, 4K upscaling, unlimited custom AI characters.
- Enterprise: custom, including SLA and DPA assurances, indemnity protection on generated output, and user-level permission controls.
Top-up credits are $3 per 100 and available on every plan.
How do the credit models differ?
Synthesia's self-serve plans consume 2 credits per second of video, so a one-minute video costs 120 credits. That makes per-minute cost predictable, which some teams prefer.
Wondercraft credits are spent across video, audio, images, music, and voice at varying rates. The same allocation covers more formats but does not map as cleanly to video minutes. Which model suits you depends on whether your output is uniform or mixed.
Because the units differ, comparing raw credit counts between the two is not meaningful. Price your own typical month against both.
Where does Synthesia win?
- Interactive Avatar video
Where does Wondercraft win?
- Video that is not a talking head. Product explainers, marketing, and social content where a presenter reduces watch-through.
- Audio formats. Internal podcasts, audio updates, and narrated content, which avatar platforms do not target.
- Top-ups on any plan at $3 per 100 credits.
- One subscription across formats. Marketing, L&D, and comms working from the same tool rather than three.
- Procurement familiarity. Often already approved by enterprise security and procurement teams, which removes a real hurdle.
- Avatar library depth and editor maturity. Years of iteration specifically on presenter-led content.
- Localisation at training scale. Well suited to the same module across many languages with a consistent presenter.
What about data handling?
Both are used in enterprise settings where this matters. Wondercraft's terms state explicitly that no customer input is used to train or refine AI or machine learning models, and that customers retain full ownership of both inputs and outputs. Enterprise plans add SLA and DPA assurances plus indemnity on generated output.
Which should you choose?
Choose Synthesia if you need interactive avatar video.
Choose Wondercraft if your output spans formats, if you need audio as well as video, or if most of your content does not require a person on screen, or if you are producing a large library of presenter-led training modules, particularly across many languages, and if enterprise procurement familiarity matters.
These are less directly competitive than the shortlists suggest. Teams running both is a reasonable outcome, not a failure of evaluation.
